Now you will all see, just how good of a boy Tobi really is.
As promised, we have pictures of my cosplay for Anime North. This one doesn't have my gloves or the sock things that I'm going to use for the leg warmer things that the Akatsuki wear over their sandals, but that's alright. The collar is left open on this shot and will probably be left open on all of my shots for no reason other than because it is tighter than it should be, and doesn't look right. After Anime North I might have a few shots of what it looks like with the collar up properly. On another note, I am very much looking forward to Anime North, if for no other reason than to see how my friend's costume turned out. He's being Professor Stein from Soul Eater.
On the note of Soul Eater, I am also very hopeful that I'll be able to find somewhere in the merchandise section, Death the Kid rings, because I would totally wear those. Hopefully I can find those, and my Tobi ring (I'm actually pretty sure I can find the Tobi ring, but no so sure about the Death the Kid ring, since the only one I saw online was made out of like pure silver and was going to cost me like all of my Anime North money just to buy one, and I really need two.)
Now for those of us who want to know the details of my costume...
The mask is made out of Paper mache, a lens from a pair of sunglasses (I might switch this out for another lens since I was having fogging issues) and the headband to keep it on (which is made of a strip of fabric, and a waistband elastic)
The clouds were made with I think a meter and a half of white fabric (possibly 2 meters) and a red bedsheet (queen sized) which was also used for the lining of the jacket. The jacket itself is made out of some black fabric that I found under my bed. I wish I knew what it was. One side was like flat, and the other side had some bumpy stuff on it. I think it put it together so that it was bumpy stuff out. What wasn't done with sewing (the clouds, and the insides of the lining on the sleeves) was done with iron on FlexWeb stuff.
My collar does stand up, but it is too tight. The standing up was achieved with Pellon, which is used for interfacing, which is the process of making stuff stand up. I can't mention this enough because most of the examples I saw out there when I was doing my research didn't have the interfacing in the collar, and it didn't look right. There are two kinds of pellon, the kind that you sew in (which is what I used) and the kind that you iron on (which I have some of, but it wasn't the appropriate weight and I was going to need to use like double the amount. The less cutting I have to deal with the better.)
This took three weeks, off and on. During which time I was also applying for work so that I would have a job. The interesting part about that is that I'm now complete the costume, but I still don't have my job. Heh...wait...that isn't funny at all...
What I used for the pattern for the costume was a simplicity shirt pattern, and I just made it much longer and adjusted the collar.
Enjoy. Hope to see you crazy people's at Anime North.
